How Can I Interpret Math Class?

Mathematics is an integral part of the curriculum for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. It is not uncommon for teacher and interpreters to have different signs for frequently used mathematical terms. This lack of consistency could have a detrimental effect on students’ learning. This workshop is designed to assist sign language interpreters, mathematics teachers annd interpreting students in becoming familiar with mathematical signs. We will discuss the rationale behind choosing certain signs and provide opportunities for interpreters to practice incorporating them in their interpretations.
