Bill Wagner

Dear Parent:
Hi, my name is Bill Wagner, I am the Automotive Instructor at the Manistique High School through the Delta Schoolcraft ISD.
This year, the 2015-2016 school year, we will be covering safety, general maintenance, steering and suspension, manual drivetrain, and brakes. This is an ASE approved and NATEF accredited program where students can earn Michigan state and ASE certifications. At the end of the school year the students will be offered the state certification tests at no charge.  These are optional tests for them, but they are encouraged to take as many as they feel comfortable with.

We use Today’s Class at todaysclass.com, an online learning component.  The students will take some of their tests through this learning environment.  They can log into their account from home and can show you what they have been doing and what is available to them.
This class requires a lab fee, $5.00 per semester/$10.00 per year.  Please make sure that your son or daughter has paid this lab fee.  (If this is a hardship, please call me at the number below to discuss some options).

We have some great opportunities available for our automotive students:
First we have Skills USA.  The students have to pay $15.00 to become a member of Skills USA, and $15 for the competition fee, totaling $30.  During October/November, I will be asking the students for this fee to be paid if they want to get involved in Skills USA and be eligible to complete in the regional competition.  The regional's are held in February at Bay College.  Qualifiers from there will be competing in the State Competition downstate in Grand Rapids.  We will be doing fund raisers so that we can afford to go downstate.  Between the fund raisers and donations, the only thing that the students end up paying for is their food for the trip.

We will be working on a Formula High School race car, check it out at http://formulahighschool.com/home.html     This is a cross curriculum project with the Auto, Welding and Pre-Engineering classes working together to build a little race car. If things go as planned we will race it at Road America in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin in the spring of 2016.

We also offer articulation agreements (advanced placement) in a few specific automotive subjects with a few colleges and universities, as well as scholarships from Bay College and UNOH. A student can earn these with good attandance, and grades of "B" or better, and by earning a Student of the Year Award. We have Articulation Agreements with Baker College, Bay College, MNU, and UNOH. Details of these agreements are available on request.

To check the status of how your son or daughter is doing in my class, you can log into PowerSchool to check their current grade, assignment progress, and attendance. If you have any questions regarding PowerSchool, please give me a call at 906-280-7253.
